About Us

Our crew at Carefree Boat Club of South Jersey combines decades of marine experience with a commitment to service. We love life on the water, and we enjoy sharing our passion with members.

Adam Fox

Captain & General Manager

35 years ago, Adam began his marine career at the age of 10 at the very site of the Carefree Boat Club of South Jersey and Commodore Bay Marina. In his career, Adam has owned and operated a successful charter fishing and marine service business. He has also captained several privately-owned vessels in search of marlin, sailfish, and tuna traveling the eastern seaboard to Key West, FL, and Bahamas. Adam is a graduate of Stockton University with a degree in Management. He is a member of the American Littoral Society (ALS), National Association of Charter Boat Operators (NACO), and National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) Shark Tagging Program. Adam, his wife Jen, daughter Katie, and Labrador Retriever Molly live in Mullica Hill.

Why I love my job: “In one word “People”. Having the opportunity to pass along my knowledge and learn from others is rewarding for me. Talking with first-time boaters and those who have countless years. We all can learn from each other through our outings on the water.”

Favorite thing to do on the water: “I have found so much enjoyment taking a pontoon boat for a cruise and anchoring up for a swim with family and friends. It requires little time and minimal effort for such a rewarding experience. Watching those around me enjoying the time, reminds me of why boating is so much fun.”

Sean McNulty

Membership Director

Sean has spent nearly 20 summers living and working in Sea Isle City. A graduate of Coastal Carolina University, he studied Communications and began his career by working in several sales positions in Sydney, Australia, and in Philadelphia, PA. His love for New Jersey Shore living brought him “home.”

Why I love my job: “My favorite thing about our boat club watching new boaters discover why boating in South Jersey is so amazing.”

Favorite thing to do on the water: “I love a day of cruising. The perfect day includes cruising out to Wildwood and stopping somewhere on the water for lunch. On the way back, stop at Champagne Island to swim. Order pizzas to go from Stone Harbor Pizza Pub. Pull up to the dock, grab the pizzas, and eat them on the boat on the way back to the Marina.”

Montana La Roche

Assistant Manager

Boats and saltwater have always been a part of Montana, living nearly his entire life at the New Jersey Shore. Montana has worked for the Commodore Bay Marina for five years while studying piloting and Air Traffic Control at Atlantic Cape Community College.

Why I love my job: “I love being on the water and being able to give our Members a great on the water experience.”

Favorite thing to do on the water: “My favorite thing to do is to get in a boat and drive, sun on my face while listening to my favorite music.”

Barrett Francis

Captain & Head Trainer

Growing up, Barrett, spent his summers boating and fishing on the bay in Avalon. He and his German Shepard, Kimber, made Avalon their home five years ago and Barret began his career in the marine and boating industry. Since then Barrett has earned his Captain’s license and has been certified by the National Safe Boating Council as a Certified On-Water Instructor.

Why I love my job: “I love teaching new members to boat. Boating is not fun if you are not comfortable and confident. I love that I am able to help members become enthusiastic boaters.”

Favorite thing to do on the water: “My favorite thing to do is fish for flounder or striped bass in the back bays of Avalon and Stone Harbor.”

Yellow Shirts

During the summer we have a dock staff that consists of 30+ guys & girls eager to assist our members in every way. As soon as you arrive there will be someone waiting in the parking lot (in a yellow shirt) waiting to help you carry your stuff to the boat, set up your water sports /fishing equipment, and walk you through everything you need to know on the boat you have reserved. Upon your return our dock hands will be waiting on the dock ready to help you tie up, unload the boat, and bring everything back to your car. If you ever need help with anything, all you need to do is look for a “Yellow Shirt”.
